Leonardslee Gardens 23rd July 2019

A summer day out to this newly re-opened garden

Tuesday 23rd July 2019

‘The Finest Woodland Gardens in England’.

The 240 acre Leonardslee Estate

at Lower Beeding, near Horsham in West Sussex.

Leonardslee Gardens re-opened in April 2019.  Restoration began when the present owner, Penny Streeter OBE, acquired the estate in 2017. Penny and her team are dedicated to restoring, maintaining and further improving the gardens and buildings, so that the public can once again experience their beauty and special qualities.

During our visit we can enjoy the beautiful landscaped Grade I listed gardens, first planted in 1801. We can also enjoy tranquil walks through the ‘Finest Woodland Gardens in England’ which boast impressive features, including a number of very rare trees and shrubs

The estate is home to an extraordinary range of wildlife including foxes, rabbits, grey squirrels, badgers, weasels, stoats, shrews, voles, and the now famous wallabies.

We can visit the Dolls House Exhibition - this extensive collection depicts the Edwardian estate and neighbouring villages at 1/12th scale, with landscapes and characters acting out day-to-day activities. Exquisite in detail and accuracy, a six-foot-tall person is recreated as six inches in height.

Wide selections of refreshments are available in the Courtyard Cafe, The Clock Tower Cafe and other food stations throughout the gardens.

Please note: Sorry no cash accepted. For security reasons Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens is a cash free zone.  They only accept payment by card. They have an outlet at reception and the Stable Block gift shop that can accept cash and you will be given a card that can be used throughout Leonardslee. Simply return your card at the end of the day to receive a cash refund of any remaining money.

We aim to arrive at the garden around 11.45am to have free time to explore and find lunch. We will leave around 3.30pm
