Out of Order Brighton

Whole Day Excursion to Brighton

Thursday 23rd  March 2017

By the ‘master of farce’ Ray Cooney

Theatre Royal Brighton 2.30pm

Our Destination:  The Brighton Theatre Royal, a stunning Grade II listed building in the heart of the cultural quarter, offers a jam packed programme of shows throughout the year. From West End plays and top-notch comedies to musicals and spectacular Christmas pantomimes, Brighton Theatre Royal offers the best theatrical line-up along the South Coast. This is probably why Brighton is always a popular destination for Theatre Club of Kent members. The theatre is conveniently located close to the Lanes, shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes. The seafront and pier are also within walking distance, as is the famous Royal Pavilion.

The Play:  Richard Willey, a Government Junior Minister plans an evening with Jane Worthington, one of the Opposition's typist, but things go disastrously wrong, beginning with the discovery of a 'body' trapped in the hotel's only unreliable sash window. Richard calls for his Principal Private Secretary, George Pigden who, through Richard's lies, sinks deeper into trouble with everybody and goes through an identity crisis. Things go from bad to worse with the arrival of Ronnie, Jane's distraught young husband: with the addition of an unscrupulous waiter, Mrs Willey and Nurse Foster, things really come to a head. I should think a great afternoon of fun and laughter is guaranteed with this brilliant play and great cast

The cast:  This stellar company includesShaun Williamson(EastEnders, Extras);Sue Holderness(Only Fools & Horses,Green Green Grass);Andrew Hall(Butterflies, Coronation Street);Susie Amy(Footballers’ Wives);James Holmes (Miranda).

The author: Recognised as ‘the master of farce’ (The Telegraph), Ray Cooney’s credits also includeRun For Your Wife, Funny Money and Move Over Mrs Markham. The award winning Out of Order is one of his favourite plays and he has now updated it to present day and the basic premise of a philandering MP is as likely today as it was when the play was originally written.

Lunch:  I have not arranged an optional lunch here as there are plenty of places to chose from in Brighton. If you have difficulty walking far, there are restaurants in the same street as the theatre very close to where we are dropped off on arrival.
