Christmas Concert

Saturday 22ndDecember 2018

   Jingle Bell Christmas

Part of the Raymond Gubbay Christmas Festival 2018   ~ Conductor John Rigby

The London Concert Orchestra with guest singers Tim Howar and Kerry Ellis

Barbican Hall 14:30

It is many years since the Theatre Club visited the Barbican Centre for a Christmas Concert [my records show our last visit was in 1997!] and it’s high time we visited again. The Barbican Complex was built during the 1960s and the 1980s within the City of London in Central London, in an area once devastated by World War II bombings and today densely populated by financial institutions. It contains, or is adjacent to, the Barbican Arts Centre, the Museum of London, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Barbican public library, the City of London School for Girls. The Barbican Arts Centre consists of 2 theatres, 3 cinemas, 1 concert hall, 2 art galleries and a tropical conservatory.

Christmas Concerts are magical events for all ages and this one should really get us in the Christmas spirit with great performers and a varied programme to suit all tastes, so let’s get Christmassy …..

The London Concert Orchestra, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2012, is one of the UK’s most versatile orchestras. Founded by Raymond Gubbay CBE in 1972, [who remembers Raymond Gubbay joining us for lunch many years ago?] the orchestra has provided audiences with performances of the highest quality in all of the major concert venues across the UK

Guest singer Kerry Ellis has fast become recognised as a leading lady of West End musicals from her starring roles in London and on Broadway. She has also achieved chart-topping success as a recording artist signed to Universal Decca with her debut album Anthems.

Guest singer Tim Howar has starred in both West End and Broadway productions – earlier this year he was in Chess the musical at the London Coliseum with Michael Ball and Alexandra Burke

Also performing will beCapital Voices and Jingle Belle Dancers

The concert programme includes favourites such as  All I Want for Christmas Is You,  Baby It's Cold Outside,  Jingle Bell Rock,

Last Christmas,  Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,  The Twelve Days of Christmas,  Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree,  Blue Christmas
