Shane Ritchie stars in
New Victoria Theatre Woking 2.30pm
Woking: Located in the heart of Surrey, Woking is a large town offering visitors excellent shopping. Woking marked Her Majesty the Queen’s 60-year reign by designing a brand new public space in the heart of the town called ‘Jubilee Square’. Visitors can now enjoy high quality restaurants and outdoor seating, new paving and landscaping in the town centre, plus enhanced retail outlets in this area and the refurbished shopping centres nearby
H. G. Wells wrote his classic novel whilst living in Woking just over 150 years ago.. Woking has a Wellsian Martian Tripod, designed by sculptor Michael Condron and opened by TV presenter Carol Vorderman in April 1998, which is located at one of end of Crown Square in Woking town centre.
You might like to visit The Lightbox, Woking’s museum and gallery where top notch well respected touring and permanent exhibitions can be found as well as Woking’s story.
The play: Sean O’Connor will direct Shane Richie in an innovative adaptation touring the UK from August to November 2019. For the first time since its premiere in 1957, this classic play will be given a vibrant new setting.
In 1982 Archie Rice is a washed-up entertainer playing a summer season. As his soldier son sails with the Task Force to liberate the Falklands, his daughter Jean returns from campaigning against the war, and Archie’s professional and personal lives collide with devastating consequences.
Shane Richie takes on the role he was born to play, memorably created on stage and screen by Laurence Olivier.
Shane Richie said, “Following in the black patent shoes of Olivier, Gambon, Lindsay & Branagh, it’s an incredible honour to be asked to play one of literatures greatest fictional characters, Archie Rice. In the words of the great man himself “you’re a long time dead, let’s just whoop it up!“
